When I was still in college I started working with a small local company on putting on festivals and events. We had been doing art fairs and smaller concerts for radio stations, when we got the chance to work on a new festival called “Detroit Electronic Music Festival”. More of an experiment than a known entity, this turned out to be a festival with over a million people attending. I can remember sitting on a ledge with my small, exhausted team above a quarter-million people dancing to George Clinton and thinking, “This is what I want to do for the rest of my life.”
